5 Tips on getting back to your fitness routine

Time to gear up for the grind

Our exercise habits have changed drastically in 3.5 months since the restrictions placed in HK. Some of us joined countless Zoom HIIT classes, some turned into passionate runners, some invested in equipments to build their own home gyms. Others might take a break from workout, because there were already a lot to manage during these stressful days.

As gyms and sport facilities reopened on 21 April, whether you already eagerly returned to get back to pre-lockdown routine or you lost the drive to exercise regularly, we have put together 5 tips to help you get moving again – safely and successfully!

TIP #1 - START SLOW & START LOW

You might have been benching 300lbs pre-lockdown but jumping back into the same level could be strenuous and even result in an injury.

ACCEPT THAT IT WON’T BE THE SAME - It takes time to activate your muscle memory. If you’re lifting, focus on form, start from low-resistance and low-rep exercises that are safe, easy and manageable for your body to get back into routine.

TIP #2 - MAKE PLANS & SET GOALS

Making plans to work your way back to peak physical condition is crucial to a successful return. You should be able to return to pre-lockdown fitness level in 1-2 months. Plan your training and set realistic goals within such timeframe. Increasing intensity with every small achievement is a great way to motivate yourself and keep yourself accountable.

TIP #3 - EAT WELL

The lockdown period might have been filled with take-outs and deliveries, however your body deserves better now! Be mindful of what you’re putting in your body and carefully manage your diet for your fitness goals. Your physique is not only made in the gym, also the kitchen.

TIP #4 - DO IT TOGETHER

You don’t have to do it alone! Training with friends is fun and motivating, also it helps each other stick with routine and achieve goals together.

If your concern lies in not knowing how to reach certain fitness goals, seeking help from a professional trainer would be a suitable way get you on the right track. Discover AmSTRONG training partners.

Fitness is about discipline. Just like the old days in gym - you would feel tired, frustrated, unmotivated. Or you get tempted to skip gym when there are dinner parties / work schedules, BUT DON’T! Stay consistent with your plan, allow time for your body to transform. Most importantly, trust the process.

This will ensure you get back to your routine in no time. #allyouneedinside
